Many fans have already taken to social media to talk about and praise the sequel's new characters. While there will be some recognizable characters, like Apollo, the new game is bringing many new faces that most won't recognize. While it hasn't been made clear just where the protagonist of the first game is, it's unlikely that favorite characters from the first game will be kept out of the sequel. The images shown of Melinoƫ provide an evolution of the original Hades' fantastic art style, showing the heroine with a ghostly skeletal arm and the same (yet flipped) mismatched eyes of her half-brother and fellow child of Hades, Zagreus. Defy the god of the dead as you hack and slash out of the Underworld in this rogue-like dungeon crawler from the creators of Bastion, Transistor, and Pyre. While not much has been said about the story beyond some paragraphs in the FAQ on Supergiant Games' website for the sequel, the implication of using Hecate as Melinoƫ's mentor figure is that witchcraft and magic will make up a much larger focus of the game's lore and style than power or death did in the first game. While not much is known about the original mythological figure, Hades II is looking to explore its protagonist's connections to ancient Greek mythology, much like how 2020's Hades created some of the year's best narrative gameplay through its clever interpretation of roguelike mechanics.
